On this occasion, we’re going to show you corrective maintenance tasks on a Siemens SIMODRIVE 611. In the video found in the article, we show you the work process for preventive maintenance involving fault detection and correction. We can see the entire process, beginning with initial testing, through repair, and subsequent quality testing that verifies the repair.

In this video, we’ll show you how we perform the preliminary test for troubleshooting. We’ll then see the subsequent functional test after the repair. In this case, we’re working with a 15-amp, dual-axis Siemens SIMODRIVE 611.

The process.

The first step to perform upon receiving the device is a visual inspection. During this same step, various direct measurements are taken to verify whether there is an obvious fault. On the other hand, if no malfunction is evident, we must perform a test on the test bench to reproduce the fault.

Once the error has been verified on the test bench, we begin disassembling it and will then identify the part of the circuit where we believe the problem lies.

On the other hand, a thorough cleaning of the electronic boards is performed. This will prevent problems arising from corrosion caused by chemical elements in the environment that deposit on them (grease, oil, metal dust, humidity, etc.). In addition, we will prevent possible short circuits or insulation losses that could be caused by these elements.

It is very important that the device’s ventilation system is in perfect condition to protect it from overheating, which could cause breakdowns. Taking advantage of the time a device is in the workshop for corrective maintenance to perform preventive work on the remaining components is a highly recommended practice. This will prevent subsequent breakdowns and prolong the device’s lifespan. Preventive maintenance by replacing cooling components, cleaning heatsinks, and changing the heatsink paste prevents numerous breakdowns and premature component wear.

Final Inspection

Once repaired, we perform a test in the Controlcheck area. During this test, a short video is recorded demonstrating the unit’s functionality and the most important signals are recorded. After several hours of constant operation with variable load cycles (acceleration, sustained speed, deceleration), the repair is approved, and the device is ready to be packed and shipped to its final destination.
